Our Counselling Service

We provide free counselling for children and young people in Hertfordshire. Our service is for ages 5 to 19 and is available to those registered with a Hertfordshire GP.

Counselling can be one-to-one or in a group, and sessions can take place in-person or online. The best option for you will be decided together at the assessment meeting.

Our Team

Our counsellors are fully qualified and registered with professional organisations like the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) or UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Each counsellor works in different ways depending on their training and expertise, using varied counselling approaches to best support the individual child or young person.

What can counselling help with?

We support children and young people who are struggling with their mental health and need early support to prevent things from getting worse.

Some common challenges we help with include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship problems (family, friends, or peers)
  • Difficult or traumatic events
  • Living with a disability or medical condition
  • Big life changes
  • Questions about identity
  • Managing difficult feelings
  • Low confidence or self-esteem
  • Body image concerns and eating difficulties
  • Ongoing worries

Please see our referral for counselling page for more more information

Our counselling service has limits to the type of mental health needs we can support due to the number of sessions available and the aims of our work. If someone needs more specialist support, we will work with them to help arrange this through linking with other mental health services in Hertfordshire.
