About our Future Youth Mentoring Service

This service is available to young people aged 10-19 who are living in East and North Hertfordshire (or attending a school in this area), who are experiencing mental health problems.

My mentor was super patient, supportive, encouraging and motivated me. They were flexible to be there when I needed and took a real interest in getting me where I wanted to be, making my future feel possible

Our Future Youth service provides one to one mentoring support, delivered face-to-face in the community for a period of up to 6 months (depending on the needs and goals of the young person).

Our approach is centred around combining practical & emotional support to aid young people in reaching their goals, which are linked to their mental health & emotional wellbeing.

Each young person is allocated their own dedicated mentor – who is able to support their needs and build a strong working relationship, whereby the young person will feel empowered to overcome barriers they may be facing.

Flexibility is central to our mentoring approach. Mentoring sessions may vary in their format, depending on the young person’s circumstances and goals. We give young people their own choice in how they are supported.

This service is delivered by our team of skilled and trained volunteer mentors, with our Future Youth Mentoring Coordinator overseeing and supporting the team.

Please note that there are limits to the mental health needs we can support, this will be discussed during your first meeting with us.

Our Mentoring Service can help with:

  • Overcoming difficulties with education (e.g. school, college, sixth form)
  • Managing problems at home or with peers/friends
  • Mental health conditions, for example depression or anxiety disorders
  • Dealing with tough changes in your life
  • Working out next steps for the future

How do I make a referral?

  • Exploring and understanding your identity
  • Building confidence in public places
  • Making or building friendships
  • Managing academic stress
  • Dealing with big or overwhelming feelings
  • Finding new interests or hobbies

Young people can refer themselves for mentoring, or a parent, carer, or professional can make a referral with the young person’s consent.
